Arizona CE Requirements

Dentist
- Dentists and dental consultants are required to complete 72 hours of continuing dental education in each renewal period, as follows:
- 1) At least 3 credit hours in chemical dependency, which may include tobacco cessation
- 2) At least 3 credit hours in infectious diseases or infectious disease control
- 3) At least 3 credit hours in CPR healthcare provider, ACLS, and PALS. Coursework may be completed online if the course requires a physical demonstration of skills
- 4) At least 3 credit hours in ethics or Arizona dental jurisprudence
- At least 42 credit hours in any of the following areas:
- A. Dental and medical health
- B. Preventive services
- C. Dental diagnosis and treatment planning
- D. Dental recordkeeping
- E. Dental clinical procedures
- F. Managing medical emergencies
- G. Pain management
- H. Dental public health
- I. Courses in corrective and restorative oral health
- J. Basic dental sciences, which may include current research, new concepts in dentistry, and behavioral and biological sciences oriented to dentistry
Licensees who hold a permit to administer general anesthesia, deep sedation, parenteral sedation, or oral sedation and are required to obtain continuing education
- No more than 18 credit hours in the following:
- A. Dental practice organization and management
- B. Patient management skills
- C. Methods of health care delivery
Dental Hygienist
- Dental hygienists are required to complete 54 credit hours of continuing dental education in each renewal period, as follows:
- 1) At least 3 credit hours in infectious diseases or infectious disease control
- 2) At least 2 credit hours in CPR healthcare provider, ACLS, and PALS. Coursework may be completed online if the course requires a physical demonstration of skills
- 3) At least 3 credit hours in ethics or Arizona dental jurisprudence
- 4) At least 3 credit hours in chemical dependency, which may include tobacco cessation
- 5) At least 3 credit hours in Ethics
- 6) At least 3 credit hours in Risk management
- At least 31 credit hours in any of the following areas:
- A. Dental and medical health
- B. Dental hygiene services
- C. Periodontal disease
- D. Care of implants
- E. Maintenance of cosmetic restorations and sealants
- F. Radiology safety and techniques
- G. Managing medical emergencies
- H. Pain management
- I. Dental recordkeeping
- J. New concepts in dental hygiene
- J. Dental public health
- No more than 14 credit hours in one or more of the following areas:
- A. Dental hygiene practice organization and management
- B. Patient management skills
- C. Methods of health care delivery
