Eligibility Requirements

This program is designed for dental assistants who:

Have at least 2,000 hours of direct clinical and patient care experience
Have already completed an approved Coronal Polishing Course

What You'll Learn

Didactic & Clinical Curriculum (32 Hours Minimum):

Coronal Scaling Theory & Techniques
Use of Hand Instruments for Supragingival Scaling
Anatomy of the Periodontium
Infection Control & OSHA Guidelines
Ethics, Jurisprudence, and Patient Management
Manikin and/or Human Subject Instruction
Competency Assessment Examination
6 Full-Mouth Coronal Scaling Procedures Under Supervision
NOTE:
Dental assistants may only perform supragingival coronal scaling on children younger than 17 who: (1) do not have periodontal disease, (2) are not in ill health or have special needs, and (3) are eligible for Medicaid, are uninsured, or whose household income is not greater than 300% of the federal poverty level.

Only hand instruments may be used.
