The LGBTQ+ community includes those (patients, families and colleagues) whose sexual orientation includes, but is not limited to, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer. Sexual orientation is who you are or to whom you are not attracted. Gender Identity, however, is who you are as well as your internal sense of self. Everyone has one.

Ex. Queer, a term reclaimed by many in the community, represents those who identify outside ‘norms’ for gender or sex. It is OK to use by those who have provided it as part of their identity.
